Gloss lamination makes photographic and brightly coloured designs look their best, but pen ink slides off it. Use it when your card leans on imagery and the back is printed, not written on.

Soft-touch — sometimes called velvet or suede lamination — has a warm, almost rubberised surface that feels distinctly premium. It deepens dark colours, so black backgrounds look rich. It is a favourite for design studios, salons, and hospitality.
